Mitsubishi ME24 series engines
The Mitsubishi ME24 series engines were an Air-cooled 2-stroke, direct 2-piston reed valve with 359cc used from 1964 to 1976
History
The Mitsubishi ME 24 engine is a Mitsubishi engine built to replace the ME20 type 309 cc single cylinder OHV and later the ME 21. Unlike its predecessor, the ME20, which had a 4-stroke, the ME21/24 was a 2-stroke engine, and until the introduction of the 2G21 Vulcan engine in 1972, it continued to be the basic form of Mitsubishi's smallest engine.
The ME24 type is an air-cooled engine, but in fact it is classified as a forced air-cooled type that forcibly introduces cooling air with a large shroud and sirocco fan. Therefore, the appearance is greatly different from the 2G10 and 2G2 series engines, which have similar cylinder arrangements.
In November 1964, the ME21 model was introduced with an auto mix separate lubrication system, and evolved into the ME24 model with a one-horsepower increase in output.

In May 1967, the ME24D type appeared with 21 horsepower due to the introduction of a reed valve. In 1969, the ME24E model was improved to 26 horsepower, and in 1970, the ME24F model improved its output to 30 horsepower. It was installed in the grade, the first generation, and the second-generation minicab. A 21 PS (15 kW) ME24 engine was also supplied to Hope Motors, along with other Mitsubishi auto parts, and installed in the Hope Star ON model 4WD. The Hope Star ON type is the parent body of the later Suzuki Jimny.
The naming convention for Mitsubishi engines was determined by the factory in which the engine was produced. In other words, the ME21 type M stands for the Mizushima plant, E for the engine, and 21 for the 21st product developed at the Mizushima plant. When the 2G10 type (water- cooled version of the ME24 type) appeared in the latter half of 1968, the above naming convention was abolished, and model numbers were given under a completely new naming convention.
The ME24 was first installed in the passenger car Mitsubishi Minica. Until production ended in 1972, the improved ME24 continued to be used in Mitsubishi Motors low-end light cars and light trucks. However, due to the tightening of automobile exhaust gas regulations, it became difficult for the air-cooled ME24 to comply with the regulations, and in order to meet customer demands for further performance, the engine was updated to a more modern design. The ME 24 type was not officially given another name, but when installed in the 100 Minica it was nicknamed the Yellow Engine. This is because the air cleaner box was painted yellow.
