Paint Binder

Paint Binder

The term 'paint' can be used to describe anyfluid that can be applied to a surface and will dry to form a continuous hard film. Refinish paints vary in their properties and uses but they allhave three basic components in common:pigment, binder or vehicle and solvent or thinner.

Binder  supplies the film-forming properties to the paint, binding the particles together and providing the adhesion to the substrate The Solvent or thinner makes the pigment/binder mixture fluid and workable during paint manufacture. It also reduces the paint to the correct consistency for application by spray gun, brush or knife. The solvent mix is volatile; it evaporates once the paint has been applied, leaving the pigment and binder to form the hardened paint film.
