Paint Bleeding Problems


The Cause of Paint Bleeding Problems can be Soluble dyes or pigments in old finish, on surface, or in undercoat dissolve in solvent of new colour, and seep through the new finish
colour.

Prevention
1. Before repainting a red or maroon colour with any light colour, check the old finish for bleeding by coating a small area with the light colour (or white). Bleeding will generally appear in a few minutes if the old colour is of a bleeding nature.
2. Do not allow spray dust from a bleeding colour to fall on other jobs.
3. Clean all equipment thoroughly after using a bleeding colour.

Repair
1. The best way to repair a bleeding area is to remove the paint in this area and repaint.
2. Mild cases of bleeding can sometimes be repaired by the use of lacquer sealer.
3. Settle for a darker colour, or a red or maroon, which will not show the bleeding.
