Honda EA type engine

Honda EA type engine Technical details and specifications

The Honda EA engine is a 4-cycle in-line 2-cylinder gasoline engine for light vehicles manufactured by Honda Motor Co. Ltd in the 1970s.

History

The EA engine appeared as the successor to the N360's air-cooled 354 cc (21.6 cu in)  in-line 2-cylinder N360E/LN360E engine.

This SOHC design has one intake/exhaust valve and is driven by a timing belt, making it the first engine in Japan to use a timing belt. It combines two balancer shafts driven by a chain to cancel the primary vibrations of the engine .Heat-resistant material is used for the valve seat in order to reduce the lead content of gasoline on the market for kei car legislation .It was first used in the Life, which was announced in May 1971.

The more powefull twin carburetor specification of 2 Keihin CV horizontal carburettors was adopted for the first time in the additional variation of Life SS and Custom announced in September 1972 with higher compression ratio of 9.0 also the Z TS and GT models.

Production of the EA engine ended in 1974 with the end of production of the Life Step Van with much large EB version used in the new Civic from the time .
