The Dodge Avenger is a 1995-2002 produced sports coupe with front-wheel drive of the US car manufacturer Dodge .
History
The Avenger was based on the technology of the Mitsubishi Galant and was a product of Diamond Star Motors , a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi . The technically identical sister model was the Chrysler Sebring , technical relationship was also with the Mitsubishi Eclipse .
Early in 1995, Dodge introduced the redesigned Avenger as a coupé with a passenger compartment and a short front end, known as the cab-forward design. This was distinguished from the Chrysler Sebring primarily by the Dodge-typical front end design, which included a cooling air inlet integrated into the front apron, a rounder styled window line and C-pillar, and a self-contained tail design. Furthermore, the Avenger was only offered as a coupe, but the Sebring was also available as a convertible. The Avenger had a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder with two overhead camshafts (142 horsepower) paired with a five-speed transmission in the base model, and a 2.5-liter V6 (157 hp) mated with a four-speed automatic in the Avenger ES.
In 1996, the performance of the V6 was increased to 165 hp. Starting from 1997 basic and ES version were equipped with the two-liter engine, the V6 was available for both models against surcharge. From 1998, there was a sports package that included the V6 engine, 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel and a rear spoiler included. In addition, the changes were limited to minor details during the life of the Avenger. From model year 1999, the model had ABS as standard .
In the five years of its production time produced about 160,000 Avenger cars.
