The Park Avenue debuted in April 1990 as a base model as well as a slightly refined top model called the Park Avenue Ultra. Both versions were initially of a Buick own 3.8-liter V6 engine (173 hp) with 127 kW, of its performance over was a standard four-speed automatic transmission type GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 4T60E transferred to the front wheels,

Compared to the decidedly small-looking styling of the first Park Avenue generation due to the energy crisis in the early 1980s, the Park Avenue of the 1990 vintage put on nearly a quarter of a meter and again demonstrated its size and elegance with a Jaguar-inspired styling.

From 1992, the Park Avenue Ultra received a 153 kW (208 hp) compressor variant of the V6. The equipped with mechanical charging models had completely in contrast to the standard model of reinforced plastic bumpers and made part of the date of construction and the customer's other wheels. The interior was also slightly upgraded, which also benefited the standard models in the later years of construction.

In 1993 slight retouches were made to the grille and rear lights; In 1994, the performance of the supercharged engine in the Park Avenue Ultra increased to 168 kW (228 hp). At the same time, the equipment was extended by a passenger airbag.

In 1995, the base model received a completely redesigned cast-iron 3.8-liter V6 engine (Series II) with 153 kW, the compressor version initially made 168 kW. In 1996, the power of the supercharged engine was increased to 179 kW (243 hp).

Performance:
Max speed approx 121mph/195kmh
power to weight ratio from 12.8kg/kW (9.4kg/PS);
consumption approx 11-17L/100km (25.7-16.6mpg) [21.4-13.8USmpgl

The first two generations of Park Avenue were also sold in Europe; these versions differed from the US models with orange indicator lenses at the front, a larger recess for the license plate between the (modified) tail lights, larger rear-view mirrors and the absence of the radiator grille above the radiator grille - although some early export models still had them. In the last two years of construction, the European version received new bumpers with much lower metal content and new side protection strips. However, the Park Avenue Ultra with supercharged engine was never officially offered in Europe.

The second generation of the Park Avenue was characterized by a very good aerodynamics, its c W value (drag coefficient) was only 0.31, which corresponded to one of the main demands from the specifications of the development.

Another peculiarity was the relatively low curb weight of 1604 kg (Ultra: 1651 kg) for a car of this size, which combined with the very low engine speed resulted in remarkably low fuel consumption in cautious driving (this applies even more to the models from 1995 onwards) with the newly designed V6 engine). Therefore, this series was used as well as for comfort and reliability in Europe, especially on long-haul routes. The 3.8-liter V6 engine effortlessly reaches mileage far beyond 300,000 kilometres.

From first generation Park Avenue, Buick made 410,000 from spring 1990 to mid-1996.

The Buick LaCrosse Second generation was built from 2009 to 2016.

History

The Buick Lacrosse is one among the American car brand Buick sold since 2004 in North America four-door sedan with front-wheel drive. It replaces the previous Buick models Century and Regal.

In Canada, the model was offered in the first generation under the name Buick Allure. For the Canadian market, according to the US car magazine Car & Driver a renaming was inevitable, after it was discovered that the term Lacrosse means in the dialect of Quebec " Masturbation ". However, with the model change to the second generation, the model is also sold in Canada as a Buick Lacrosse. GM justified this with the fact that in Quebec the term Lacrosse was also accepted in relation to the sport of the same name and the model could be better marketed under a uniform name.

Buick LaCrosse Second generation specifications

The second generation of the Lacrosse was unveiled in January 2009 (as a model year 2010 vehicle) at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is strongly based on the concept of the Buick Invicta and is based on the General Motors Epsilon II platform that used a long-wheelbase, which also forms the basis for the Opel Insignia. The new Lacrosse competes, according to the company, for the very popular in the US Lexus ES. A Large selection of petrol engines from 2.4 litre Ecotec four-cylinder to a larger 3.6 litre V6 from around 180 to 300 hp for the most powerful model all now front wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Buick LaCrosse Second generation Technical details

The second-generation Lacrosse was produced at the Fairfax plant in Kansas City and offered at prices starting at $ 26,245 (as of April 2010). At the New York International Auto Show 2013, a revised version was introduced, which came on the market in 2014. In China, Shanghai-GM built its own Lacrosse between 2007 and 2016, which is related to the US model of the first generation, but has a completely unique body and other engines (2.4-liter with 125 kW / 168 hp or Three-litre V6 with 131 kW / 176 hp). The prices amount (as of February 2008) to 217,000 to 300,000 yuan. With the introduction of the third Lacrosse generation, it is also offered in China. Roewe has been producing a sedan under the name Roewe 950 since 2012, largely based on the Buick Lacrosse.

The Buick Wildcat Second Generation was a car manufactured from 1965 to the end of 1970 by Buick.

History

The Buick Wildcat took its name from a fiberglass-bodied 1953 concept car. From 1966 to 1969, there were again only the standard (with the details of the 1965 Wildcat Deluxe generation) and custom equipment. Buick’s medium-priced line, still equipped for superior shared the LeSabre's new 1965 body, but was distinguished by a diecast grille having a large centre emblem, Wildcat script on the quarter panels and rear deck lid. The wheel covers also used the Wildcat emblem. Inside, Wildcat emblems appeared on door panels Standard equipment, included a smoking set and rear seat ash trays. Interiors were cloth or vinyl. This was a Deluxe trim variation on the Wildcat Series 46200, with slightly plusher interior combinations available. Serial numbers began with 464005 and Custom with Deluxe steering wheel, padded-type arm rests, outside rear-view mirror and Custom headlining (Fixed Head). Plusher cloth and vinyl or all-vinyl trim was used, with notch back or Strato bucket front seats.

Buick Wildcat 2nd Gen (1965-1970)

Concept vehicles

Buick has used the name "Wildcat" for five concept vehicles, three of them in the early 1950s, one in 1985 and one last 1997. Wildcat I (1953), Wildcat II (1954), and Wildcat III (1955) were Harley Earl designed, I and II still exist today.

The 1985 Wildcat was a radical mid-engine four-wheel drive sports car with a high-performance V6 engine with two overhead camshafts. The chassis was made of carbon fibre and vinyl ester fibre and the body had a folding roof for entry and exit of the occupants. This futuristic vehicle still belongs to Buick today and is still operational.

In 1997 Buick built a concept car called Riviera Wildcat. This car had inside carbon fibre panels instead of imitation wood, blackened chrome parts on the outside and the engine was changed.

The Buick Gran Sport 400 is a muscle car of the American car brand Buick from the mid to late 1960s.

History

Buick loaded its GS model with luxuries, but also gave it a powerful engine so it could hold its own amongst the muscle cars of 1969.

As with Oldsmobile of 442, is at the Buick GS or the GranSport a so-called high-performance-option package, which gives the vehicle based on a Skylark the new name. The Gran Sport name has been used on several high-performance cars built by General Motors for its Buick brand since 1965 The GS package was also available for the Buick models Riviera and Wildcat. In 1965, Buick built the first Gran Sport based on the mid-range Skylark. At that time, you could order a Skylark with a V8. Interiors were all-vinyl, with a bench front seat standard and buckets available option A DeLuxe steering wheel was standard, alone with foam-padded seats, ash tray light, glove box light and upper interior light.

Buick Gran Sport 400 Maintenance

The Gran Sport, however, the strongest Buick V8 was installed. This had 6.6 l (401 in³) capacity known as the "nailhead" engine a bored and stroked version of the 340 and brought according to the manufacturer 242 kW (325 hp) and 603 Nm (445 ft.lbf) of power. Vehicle Identification Numbers began with 446008.

Buick sold over 15,000 Gran Sports in the first year and again as many in the second year. So claimed Buick in Muscle car competition. In 1967 Buick built the Gran Sport 400 with a newly developed 400 cui engine, which now produced 253 kW (340 hp) and had a torque of 597 Nm (440 lb-ft). In 1968 and 1969 Buick offered the GS 400 in a convertible and hardtop model The fastback coupe was the most sold body style, though the convertible has remained the most desirable, as just 1,776 were made in 1969.

Buick Gran Sport 400 specifications

Buick offered even more power with the rare Stage 2 option. Officially, the Stage 2 engine modified 268 kW (360 hp), which was understated. Some customers measured 368 kW in their Stage 2 Buicks. Buick himself advertised in a brochure with the inscription "360 hp, quarter Mile in 12.5 Seconds".

The first Buick Rivieras were built from 1963 to 1965. Designed by chief designer Bill Mitchell , the model was launched as a competitor to the four-seat Ford Thunderbird .

History

Originally, Cadillac was to produce this model as the successor to La Salle . For capacity reasons, the order was then awarded by the automotive group General Motors to Buick.
A high-class prestige car with sporting inclinations, designed to carry four people swiftly and quietly with the absolute minimum of fuss. This it does supremely well with its 7-litre V-8 engine (giving 360 b.h.p. gross in "Super Wildcat" tune) and one of the best automatic gearboxes in the world. Its impressive top speed of 128 m.p.h. everyone can enjoy its staggering acceleration a car that weighed over two tons yet would accelerate to 100 m.p.h. in 22.4 seconds. and surprisingly good road manners.

Buick Riviera First generation

Unmistakably American in every way but has a certain classic grace. The sheer, smooth power, mechanical quietness and luxury of the furnishings even the driver's seat is power operated. All windows are electrically operated and so is the drivers ,movement: a small "joy stick" switch can be moved to bring hidden electric motors into action and so seat backwards or forwards, or alter its angle of tilt.

Luxury is the essence of the Riviera. The provision of seats in such a vast body creates the illusion of first-class travel By pulling stalk under the steering wheel, a ball joint at the top of the column is unlocked and the angle of the wheel can be moved through several positions. The seats themselves are very comfortable, and hold the occupants fairly well The ventilation system, though devoid of modern face-level outlets (unless air-conditioning is fitted) keeps the car nicely cool in hot weather with a strong blast from under the scuttle. Most of the dashboard switches are easy to reach.

The rear seats, reached by tilting the front ones on the door controls movement of the seat. The cluster of window switches can be seen beneath the quarter light winder.
forward, are comfortable and a fifth person can be carried in the middle with the arm rest folded, but not in great luxury. Forward and side visibility is good and the rear-view mirror shows all that is required, but bright sunlight can cause severe reflection of the facia in the front screen.

The 1963 .A new hood ornament and revised Riviera scripts on the fenders were the major changes. The simulated rear fender cooling vents were outlined in metal and a highlight line along the body side crease A twin grill with egg crate center frontal Along with letter 'R'in wheel cover centers. Standard features included deep-pile carpeting, foam-padded front and rear bucket seats and a center console with transmission selector lever. Interiors were trimmed in vinyl with wood accents. equipped with the two-speed Dynaflow automatic transmission from 1964, the three-speed automatic TH400 was installed. From 1964, the seven-liter engine with 340-360 hp (with two quad carburetors ). The suspension with double wishbones up front and a live axle located at the rear. The Riviera was powered in 1963 with the Buick Nailhead V8 gasoline engine with 6.6-liter displacement with torque of 603 Nm and 325 hp (240 kW) or seven-liter V8 engine with 630 Nm and 340 hp (250 kW).

1963 and 1964 still with double headlights in the grill and in 1965 with folding headlights, the body remained unchanged to a few details with a vinyl roof available as an option.  Extra-cost options included, air conditioning, power windows, power driver's seat,  a remote-controlled side view mirror.

In 1965 came as a sporty top model of the Riviera Gran Sport (GS) with stiffer, heavy-duty suspension and powered by the Super Wildcat V8.

The sports coupe also gain a foothold in the European luxury market. The design influenced subsequent models of most manufacturers. Glued windshield and rear window, new metal gluing process on the body and for an American vehicle unusual, frameless door panels were trend-setting at that time. The Buick Riviera has been awarded several design awards.Nearly seven litres of fairly well tuned engine in a massive car are not likely to give very good petrol consumption. On the open road, the figures improve a little 14.1 m.p.g. at a steady 80 m.p.h.
