The Brabham BT3 was a Formula One racing car built in 1962 by Brabham .
The car was designed and built during the first half of 1962, This one-off car was raced in 1962 making its race debut on August 3 in the 1962 German race, but was forced to retire having run only two-thirds of the race yet scored a fourth place in each of two remaining races. 1963 was more successful, with Jack Brabham driving to victory in the Australian, Austrian GPs.
it followed the broad lines that featured in most Brabhams through to the end of the decade. As common for the time fuel tanks fitted alongside the driver and behind his seat. The water radiator was in the nose, with pipe runs partly exposed. The Coventrv Climax V-8 drove through a Colotti-Francis' six-speed gearbox.
The chassis was stiff by space frame standards, outboard coil spring/damper suspension was used all round, with leading top wishbone and trailing lower wishbone at the front, twin wishbones and radius arms at the rear, and outboard brakes.
1963 it was modified with a fuel-injection V-8 and Newland five-speed 'box. and was used early in the year by Brabham, before Denny Hulme drove his first Fl races in it.
It then passed to Ian Raby, who ran it in a few F1 races with a BRM V-8.The successes continued through the 1964 season.
