The Mazda Romper was a small truck first built from 1958 and untill 1964 by Toyo (Mazda) in Japan.

History

The Mazda Romper came as  a flatbed or van,with a maximum payload of one ton and the first four-wheeled vehicle from Tōyō Kōgyō , today as Mazda .

1958 started the first sale. This received for power the air-cooled two-cylinder OHV gasoline engine with 1105 cc and a power of 32.5 hp from the three-wheeled pickup / van of the Mazda T-series . This now had room for three people in the front and had four-wheel drive .Later equipped with a 2-cylinder OHV gasoline engine and a 1,400cc, 42-horsepower air-cooled V-type 2-cylinder OHV gasoline engine. 

In 1959, the engine was converted to water cooling with a in-line 4-cylinder OHV and at the same time the name changed according to an increased payload in D 1100 and D 1500 models.

In 1962, the the body size and frame was extended, and a new gasoline engine with 1985 cc, 2.0 liters and 81 hp (60 kW) was added. This increased the payload and accordingly there were the models D 1500 and D 2000.

The price of the D1500 standard type at launch was 505,000 yen .In 1964, the D series was replaced by a more modern Mazda E 2000 .
