The Ferrari 735 S is a racing car produced by the Scuderia di Maranello from 1953

History

The car debuted at Monza in the Autodromo Grand Prix on 29 June 1953  .The Ferrari, under the guidance of the engineer Aurelio Lampredi produced racing and sports cars, equipped with four-cylinder engines. Less expensive than the twelve-cylinder ones, they allowed the Maranello company to obtain numerous victories in the competitions of the fifties .

The Ferrari 735S followed the four-cylinder strategy, which was already started with the Ferrari 625TF in Maranello . All three Spyders got the same body from Ferrari in 1953, which - a rare exception at that time - was developed by Ferrari itself. The project had a remarkably short development time, so Aurelio Lampredi himself submitted the design for the vehicle. The bodies were made at least partially in the Carrozzeria Autodromo Modena . The four-cylinder was improved and now made at 2941 cc 225 hp. The engine had significantly better torque than the four-cylinder unit in the 625TF.In the sports model, the displacement was increased to 3 litres and was called 735.

The chassis of the 735 was the typical Ferrari. The rear axle was of the De Dion type with leaf spring transverse and shock absorbers with transverse leaf spring and hydraulic shock absorbers. and reached 260 kmh the engine developing 225 hp at 6800 rpm. The car weighed 750 cylinder  The chassis offered good rigidity and received a three-Liter four suspension, wheels had independent front end .

The 735 Sport was raced for the first time on June 29, 1953 at the Grand Prix of Monza , a national sports car in the Autodromo Nazionale Monza . At the wheel was Alberto Ascari , who qualified the car in the pole position . In the first race - the competition was held in two races - he had an accident and could not participate in the second.

In the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti in the same year reached Umberto Maglioli third overall; and after another sports car race in Italy, a car was sold to the Frenchman François Picard , who thus denied the Tour de France for automobiles in 1954 and celebrated at the end of the year with his success at the Gran Premio de Penya Rhin the only race win for the 735 Sport.

Only 3 examples of the Ferrari 735 S were produced, all characterized by different bodywork .
