The Opel Commodore A from Adam Opel AG was a car built from 1968 to 1972.
History
The Opel Commodore A positioned in the more upper-class luxury range. The Commodore was derived from the record C. The production of the successor Commodore B began by December 1971.The Opel Commodore A was marketed as an upgraded sister model of the Opel Rekord C with four-cylinder engines and was available as a two and four-door notchback sedan, as a two-door coupe. A luxury station wagon model called "Voyage" was presented only as a concept study, but did not enter into the regular sales program. The coupe was rebuilt among others by the company Karl Deutsch GmbH as a convertible body.

Feature of this series were introduced with the Opel Rekord B Opel CIH engines, in which the driven by a duplex roller chain and laterally next to the valve’s overhead camshaft via short pusher and rocker arm. These engines were used in almost all major Opel models until the 1990s: in the Omega A (2.4i / 2.6i / 3.0i), Senator B (3.0i / 3.0i 24V) and last in the Frontera.
The smallest engine with 95 hp had a displacement of 2.2 litres and was built only in small numbers. There was already the "record 6", which was in a small series a year before the introduction of the Commodore models.
Initially available were the 2.5 S with 115 hp (from August 1969 with 120 hp) and the more powerful model Commodore GS with the engine 2.5 H (130 hp). The from February 1970 available top model GS / E was equipped with a 2.5-liter engine with electronic fuel injection (Bosch D-Jetronic), which made 150 hp. On request, the vehicle was also delivered with a three-speed automatic transmission.

To a lesser extent, there were from April 1970 to September 1971, the model GS / 2.8 with 2.8 litres and 145 hp. The Commodore A produced 156,467 units between January 1967 and December 1971, of which 72,597 units were for the four-door sedan, 70,333 for the coupe and 13,537 for the two-door sedan.
