Highclere Motor Car Syndicate Ltd. was a early British manufacturer of steam automobiles . The brand name was initially EJYR , from 1908 as Rutherford .

History

EJY Rutherford and George Hamilton founded the company in Highclere near Newbury in 1907 and began producing automobiles. 1912 ended the production. Overall, only a few copies made.

The company produced steam cars, the chassis being built on the conventional lines of a classic petrol format. The first model was the 30/40 HP . A three - cylinder steam engine fitted with cam-operated mushroom valves, powered the rear axle via a cardan shaft, the burner system being adapted to ordinary paraffin as a fuel type . The boiler was a serpollet kettle . The touring car offered space for five people. The model was presented at the Olympic shows 1907 and 1908. The price was £575 . 1911 appeared a model with a stronger engine.
