The fourth generation of the Corona brought Toyota in February 1970 on the market. However, this was not just a slightly redesigned model. The entire technology in the vehicle has been revised and updated to the latest technical standards.

Toyopet / Toyota Corona

      • Silhouette 70 ⇒ entry-level model with moderate equipment
      • 1500 ⇒ model variant with radio and optional décor
      • 1500DX ⇒
      • 1600SL
      • 1600DX ⇒ automatic version with all extras; electronically controlled injection (ECT)

In September 1970 the following model versions were added:

      • 1700SL ⇒ equipped with a 6R-B - engine
      • 1700DX ⇒ equipped with a 6R engine

Another innovation appeared in February 1971 with the 12R , which had a displacement of about 1600 cc and powers of 86 to 192 hp. This was at the time of the oil crisis, one of the most popular engines and helped the Corona in the US and Canada to a Toyota until then unrecognized name recognition.

Toyota had changed the Corona again for half a year. Interior and exterior have been completely changed. One year later, they finally changed the radiator grille. The engine was further selection of the 18R-B  However, this was mainly reserved for the newly established hardtop and hardtop coupe Corona 2000SR .

In April 1973, the production of the Corona had to be stopped due to more stringent emission standards and was later replaced by the T100 generation.

In America and Africa, the Corona T80 was only sold with 4-cylinder engines. The 6-cylinder and V6 engines were reserved for Japan, Australia and Europe due to a huge number of orders.

February 1970 -Full model change. The reason why the model number jumped from T50 to T80 is that the model name of T60/T70 was given to the first Corona Mark II that appeared after T50. In the Corona series, the Mark II was originally planned to be the 4th generation Corona, but due to the persistent popularity of the T40 series, a new 4th generation Corona was developed separately .

Initially, only 4- door sedans and 5- door vans were set (pickup trucks were discontinued), and the grades were the 1500 standard and 1500DX, the 2R OHV engines since the T20 series, and the 1600DX and 1600SL, which re-appeared with the R40 golden series engines. There were four types of In contrast to the third-generation Bluebird (510 series), which was a rival model, and had already adopted SOHC engines and four-wheel independent suspensions for all passenger car models, the mechanism was still old-fashioned . The only breakthrough was Japan's first electronically controlled 3-speed AT "EAT", which allows you to choose between two transmission modes, normal and sports, for the 1600 Deluxe However, the sales area was limited to metropolitan areas, and the actual sales volume was extremely small. The triangular window was abolished, and it was named "Thunder Wave". It was characterized by a simple yet intonated style under the window on the side of the body. However, due to the typical design of this era, which resembled the Corolla of the same period, and the appearance of the Carina, which is an intermediate model between the Corolla and the Corona, it did not attract much attention. For the van model, the rear lamp was changed to an integrated type with both turn signal and brake, and the position of the rear license plate was moved to the back door.

August 1970-The 2-door hardtop (dual muffler) was revived, and the engines were 1,700cc, 1,900cc and 1,500cc, the same as the Mark II. In September of the following year, the 1,600cc SOHC engine was changed to a 6R-type 1,700cc sedan, resulting in the 1700DX sedan 1700SL. In February 1971 , the 1500 was replaced with a 12R type OHV 1,600cc and became the 1600 standard, 1600, and hardtop 1600.

Toyota Corona 4th Gen

August 1971 a Minor change. The look was changed greatly by changing to a square front design. The rear lamp, based on the revision of the Road Trucking Vehicle Law from 1973 , was changed to an orange flashing blinker by making it independent . Along with this change, the van model separates the rear lamp from the rear lamp and newly installed it in the back door. The nickname of this model is "Bravo Corona".

August 1972 - Received the second minor change, and received design changes such as the front grille and wheel cover. At this time, the 1900, which was set only for the 2-door hardtop, was changed to 2,000cc in the form of following the full model change of the Mark II in January of the same year. The engine is "18R-B" type (SOHC / twin cab) and "18R-E" type (SOHC / EFI), grade is 2000SL, same EFI, and newly added 2000SR. At the time of this minor change, the EAT was improved to allow the manual mode to be selected, making it available for the 1700 Deluxe and 2000SL. In April 1973 , at the end of the model year , the 1973 exhaust gas regulations were implemented.

The total number of new car registrations up to the month before the end of sales was 386,784 .
