The Opel 10/12 hp was a early car which the Adam Opel KG company built from 1902 to 1906.

History

The 10/12 hp was the first Opel constructed by the Rüsselsheim automaker after its own design, and it was also the brand's first midsize vehicle. Opel manufactured a two-cylinder engine for the first time, and the formerly ubiquitous valve change control was also dropped from the manufacturer's range with this model.

The engine was a two-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1885 cc (bore stroke = 100 mm 120 mm) that produced 12 horsepower (8.8 kW) at 2000 rpm. The water-cooled T-head engine was positioned on the side. A leather cone clutch, a manual three-speed transmission with steering column circuit, and a propeller shaft were used to transfer engine power to the back axle. The car's top speed was 45 kilometres per hour.

The frame was made of sheet steel U-profiles and was reinforced with wood. The two rigid axles were suspended on semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake was designed as a band brake, which acted on the rear wheels.

There were three body styles, a two-seat Phaeton , a four-seater tonneau and a two-seater coupe . The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 6000 RM.

In 1906, the construction of the 10/12 hp was discontinued. Successor was from 1910 the model 8/16 hp .
