History
Datsun is the oldest existing automobile manufacturer in Japan . The Datsun brand name was introduced, originally as Datson , by the DAT Motorcar Company in 1931 for a new model of passenger car. This was smaller than the models in the DAT 41 passenger car series , hence the name referred to Sohn des DAT . However, after just one year the last syllable of the name was changed to "sun" (English for "sun"), since son means "loss" in Japanese, while the sun is also part of the Japanese flag . This is how the name Datsun came about
The first prototype of the Datson was completed in the summer of 1930; the series production vehicle from 1931 to 1932 was the Datson 10 . After a hurricane damaged the plant, repairs had to be made; at the same time the model was revised.
The production ran from only 1931 to 1932. The vehicle had a four-cylinder engine with side steering and a capacity of 495 cc. The engine power was 10 hp. The engine was mounted in front and powered the rear axle. The vehicle was 271 cm long. The empty weight was given as 400 kg. The choice was roadster and touring car , each with two doors and a van .The width was 117.5 cm and the wheelbase 188 cm. Successor was the Datsun 11 .
