The Nissan Xterra is an SUV that was offered between 2005 and 2015 by Nissan on the basis of the F-Alpha platform and in which technical similarities with the Navara exist.

The Xterra is being built in Smyrna (Tennessee) and São José dos Pinhais in Brazil. In Iran, the vehicle is offered as Nissan Roniz and also manufactured under license by the Iranian car manufacturer Pars Khodro. In China, the same car carries the name Nissan Paladin. The name Xterra goes back to the name of the terrain triathlon XTERRA. Nissan was the main sponsor of this race until the end of 2006.

The first Xterra range was launched in the 2000 model year in the US, marketed as a simple yet powerful SUV and promoted with the slogan "Everything you need, nothing yon does not". The vehicle was purchased by women and men of all ages, regardless of individual lifestyle, but Nissan advertised the Xterra primarily as a vehicle for adventurers.

Two design details remained unchanged since the presentation: the high roof and the decorated square in the metal sheet on the non- symmetrical tailgate. The high roof allows the occupants an elevated seating position and the bulge on the tailgate serves to accommodate the first aid box. The Xterra was not offered in Japan and in Europe; There, the smaller X-Trail and the Qashqai are the entry-level vehicles in the SUV sector. In the US, the Xterra took over this role until the launch of the rogue in 2008. In the Nissan model range, the Xterra is priced between the rogue and the Murano, but is smaller than the rogue in terms of vehicle size.

In 2005, the Xterra received an extensive facelift and is now based on the same chassis as the pickup models Titan and Navara. The new model is larger in every respect than its predecessor. The drive is the 4.0 l V6 engine, type VQ40DE, with 265 bhp (195 kW). The new engine is much better tuned than the predecessor and has a camshaft adjustment. The terrain model of the Xterra has a limited slip differential Rear comparable with other SUVs of this size. In 2009, the Xterra received another facelift with additional trim details, other colours, leather seats for the SE model and rooftop mounted lighting on the terrain model.
