History
The PL410 again grew in dimensions by a few inches (length about 4 meters) and received a more powerful 1.2-liter engine (55 to 60 SAE-PS). The offer included four-door sedan and five-door station wagon 2/4-door sedan a 3-door light van with 3- or 4-speed manual transmission and leaf-sprung rear rigid axle.
And a sport model, the Bluebird SS, was launched in Japan in March 1964, with a tuned 1.2 L engine. The SS was available only in a four-door configuration (MTK), and two-door (RTK). A small facelift in 1965 gave the Bluebird the type number PL 411.
The base engine was downtuned from the 1.3 L unit used in the 411-series SS in May 1965, now with a single (twin-barrel) carb and producing 67 PS (49 kW) at 5,200 rpm. The three-speed transmission was retained. The SS was somewhat detuned, now producing 72 PS (53 kW) while keeping the four-speed transmission. In addition, in the same month, a twin-carb 1.6 L SSS variant with no less than 90 PS was released (66 kW).
