The Dodge 116 was a Dodge Brothers car built in Detroit , which was presented as an evolution of the model 30 in June 1922 as a model 1923.

History

The automobile, like its predecessors, had a side-mounted 3479 cc 4-cylinder Flathead inline engine that produced 35 bhp (25.7 kW). A multi-disc dry clutch and a three-speed gearbox with middle shift drove the rear wheels. The brakes on the back wheels were mechanical.

The chassis had a 2896 mm wheelbase. In contrast to previous versions, two equipment options were available: The standard came in a 2-door roadster, 4-door touring car, 4-door sedan, 2-door business coupe, and 4-door business sedan body style. The Custom had more features than the four-door sedan, two-door four-seater coupe, and three-door van. All-steel bodywork (rather than the traditional wood-steel composite structure) were available for the first time in the US automotive industry.

In 1924 the model series was completely revised. The wheelbase grew 2 "to 2,946mm, and all the bodies looked lower and sleeker, with all cars now equipped with a (single) brake light, the new Special models - with the same bodies as the standard models, but better equipped In addition, automatic windshield wipers, door locks, transmission lock, exhaust heater, disk wheels or wood spoke wheels with demountable rims, and roll-down windows. As custom models, there was an open and a closed taxi and a Landaulet.

In 1925, the 1924 models were continued essentially unchanged, with the automatic windscreen wipers (instead of the previously manually operated) for all models included in the basic equipment. As a custom model also a 5-door station wagon was offered.

When the series was replaced in July 1925 by the series 126 , a total of 580,108 copies were created in three years.
