Alpina B12 Range

Alpina B12 is the name of the range of cars -Herstellers Alpina for its luxury class models and Sport Coupe (E31) with twelve-cylinder engine - gasoline engine . So far, the model name has been used for five different models based on three BMW sedans of the 7 series (types E32 and E38 ) and the coupés of the 8 series ( E31 ).
History
The B12 5.0 variants, which have remained unchanged in displacement - based on the 850i (or from 1993 850Ci) - achieve 257 kW (350 PS) and 470 Nm through various optimizations. The speed limit of 250 km / h has also been lifted; the coupé reaches a top speed of 281 km / h. The E32 is specified with 275 km / h and the E38 with 6 liter displacement in its most powerful version with 316 kW (430 PS) achieves 291 km / h according to the manufacturer.
At the end of 1992, shortly after the market launch of the BMW 850 CSi , Alpina presented the B12 5.7 , which had a displacement of exactly 700 cm³ . By redesigning the engine and increasing the displacement to 5646 cm³, an engine output of 306 kW (416 hp) and a maximum torque of 570 Nm were achieved. The speed limit was also waived again, whereby a maximum speed of (over) 300 km / h is achieved. In addition to the six-speed manual gearbox, this model was also available with a six-speed shift control system that did not have the clutch pedal. This shifttronik is a forerunner of the SMG. When changing gears, the clutch is operated fully automatically with the shift lever. In the period from November 1992 to November 1996, a total of 57 B12 5.7s left the Alpina factory in Buchloe .
