The third generation Dodge Dart from model year 1963 replaced a new dart in the so-called "Compact" class from the former Dodge Lancer .
History
This dart had a wheelbase of 282 cm (station wagon: 269 cm) and competed mainly with the Ford Falcon , Mercury Comet and the Compact models of General Motors : Chevrolet Chevy II , Pontiac Tempest , Oldsmobile F-85 and Buick Special . Plymouth offered with the same time renewed Valiant(wheelbase 269 cm) a similar, but in detail differently designed car. The new Dart stood as a two-and four-door sedan, five-door station wagon, two-door hardtop coupe and a convertible in the equipment lines Dart 170, Dart 270 and Dart GT in the program.
Six-cylinder engines of 2.8 and 3.7 liters displacement were available with optional Torqueflite automatic transmission.

1964 to 1966 changes
From model year 1964, a 180 hp / 182 hp 4.5-liter V8 was added.
In 1965 The Dodge Dart Charger was now offered with special Charger badging and Commando 273 engines and upgraded mechanical and trim specifications.
In 1965 and 1966, there were only minor detail changes such as for 1965 the range now has front seat belts as standard improved suspension components and larger 14 in wheels and tires a new performance version of the 273 engine was released with a 4-barrel carburetor, 10.5:1 compression,which increased output to 235 bhp.Factory-installed air conditioning became available after the start of the 1965 model year.The 1966 year the larger B-body Dodge Charger .From 1965 a Spanish version of the Dodge Dart that was based on the original from the United States version was manufactured in Madrid.
