The Mercedes-Benz W 153 was built from 1938 as a Mercedes-Benz type 230 parallel to the type 230 / W 143 and officially presented for the Berlin Motor Show 1939.

History

The Mercedes-Benz Type 230 (1938-1943) car had the same wheelbase as the parallel-built type W 143 on a long chassis, but a completely redesigned chassis. Instead of the box profile press-steel low frame, he had an oval tube frame in X-shape. Initially, the six-cylinder engine with 2229 cc and 55 hp (40 kW) was used. In 1939 there was a new engine with enlarged bore and 2289 cc with the same power. The maximum speed is 116 km / h.In contrast to the W 143 there was no Pullman sedan and no suitcase or luggage rack, but a voluminous trunk lid on the four-door sedans and convertibles A, B or D.

The model was built until 1943 and then discontinued due to the war. The body shape was then resumed on the model 170 S.

There was also a short wheelbase model, the Mercedes-Benz type 230 SV (1938-1939) a hatchback two-door sport sedan, and a sports roadster. Technically, they correspond to the large type 230, but reached between 125 and 130 km / h.
