The Mercedes-Benz M 189 is based on a series of inline six-cylinder petrol engines that Daimler-Benz produced from 1957 to 1967.
The engine not only replaced its predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz M 186 (the founder of Daimler-Benz 3-liter engines from the 1950s), but also shaped most of the models of the next decade. The M 189 is basically the injection variant of the M 186 and was the longest produced engine in the family. He was in the course of his production time with changes provided, such. B. 1961 by the introduction of a new base alloy of aluminum instead of cast iron.
