The Citroën Pony (or Namco Pony) is a vehicle that was manufactured based on the Citroën 2CV at Namco Motors in the Greek Thessaloniki from 1975 to 1982.
History
In the 1960s, Namco was looking for a parts supplier to manufacture a small car . Finally, they agreed with Citroën, which worked with local partners in many countries, including Ivory Coast , Iran, Chile ( Yagan ), Vietnam ( Dalat ) and in Portugal with the Citroën FAF produced there (whose name stands for "Facile à Fabriquer, Facile à Financer".
The designer from the Greek Georgios Michael designed vehicle has a body made mostly folded and welded steel sheet work . The chassis was supplied by Citroën and shortened at Namco by 5 cm, as well as the technology came from the Citroën 2CV. The 0.6-liter two-cylinder boxer engine developed 29 hp (21.3 kW).
The vehicle was offered in three variants: PONY ST, PONY LS, PONY LS Pallas. As an accessory, such as a hardtop was available.
As a niche product, the pony was very successful, so soon similar cars were designed as the MAVA Renault . The car was exported to many countries to the USA . In 1982, the production of the model was discontinued and offered a successor with revised design and Ford technology. The choice was now three gasoline engines and a diesel engine .
