For the 1940 line-up Chevrolet offered three separate models known as the Master 85, Master DeLuxe, and the Special DeLuxe The Master 85 was available in the same body styles as the other two except for a Convertible. Mechanically, it was the same car except for having the conventional front springing.
1940 was again a major facelift . The grille consisted of a narrow, arched center section with horizontal chrome bars, with small, half-high wing sections on the sides. The headlights sank into the front fenders, which were additionally crowned with position lights. The bonnet was first designed as a rear battered alligator hood. The trunk lid was much rounder.
Chevrolet had reintroduced a cheaper, live-front-axle model in 1935, and this remained available through 1940, when it was called the Master 85. Both '40 Master series were available as business coupes, and two and four-door sedans.
The Master 85 series included a woody wagon. The top-line Special DeLuxe also came in wagon form. From the Master 85 KB series there were only four models: a coupe with two doors, two sedans with two or four doors and five-door station wagon, of which only 411 were built. The Master Deluxe Series KH was after the introduction of the new top model Special Deluxe, the middle model and slightly better equipped than the Master 85th In addition to two coupes were two sedans with 2 or 4 doors offered.
333,417 Master 85 and Master Deluxe were manufactured this year.
