The Completely revised, Second generation Chevelle was presented in the 1968 model year.

History

The wheelbase of sedans, coupes and convertibles had shrunk by 3 "while the station wagons had a wheelbase about 1" longer. Completely new was also the 5-door station wagon Chevelle Nomad Wagon at the 300 and the 300 Deluxe were introduced. The name should remember the 1955 Chevrolet's three-door top model. In addition to this station wagon, the 300 only had a 2-door coupe, the 300 Deluxe additionally a 2-door hardtop coupe and a 4-door sedan. The Malibu, the Concours and the SS-396 had the same range of models as last year.

Chevrolet-Chevelle station wagon

The following year, the base model Chevelle 300 and the luxury combination Chevelle Concours fell away. Simplest execution was now the Chevelle 300 Deluxe, while the Chevelle Malibu continued to function as a top model. The SS-396 was, as in 1964, just a sports package that could be ordered for all Chevelle Malibu with V8 engine. The Nomad, taken from the previous year series Chevelle 300, wore as the only model within the Chevelle 300 Deluxe series still the serial numbers 131/132. The other station wagons of the series received the name Greenbrier series 133/134 , formerly for a bus of Corvair - Row was used. These combinations were available with either six or nine seats. Three luxury options became available in March 1968 for the 4-door sedan, the 4-door sport sedan and the hardtop coupe with sound insulation, and a padded instrument panel with woodgrain effect accents and all-vinyl color-keyed interiors. Also, the Chevelle Malibu had now 5-door station wagon with six or nine seats, the Chevelle Malibu Estate Wagon were called. In addition, there was still the convertible, the two hardtop models and the 4-door sedan.

Only minor changes for 1969.In 1970,  body revisions gave the bodies a more styling, and interiors were also redesigned the Chevelle developed a particularly luxurious sports coupé, which formed its own series as Monte Carlo . It was on the trim level of the again offered Concours Estate Wagon Series 138 , which featured as a six- or nine-seater, exclusively with V8 engines, the top of the range. Among them ranked the Chevelle Malibu, whose station wagons were now called Concours Wagon . The 2-door hardtop coupe became a sports coupe with B-pillars. In the middle segment of the Chevelle was offered (the addition 300 Deluxe accounted for), which was available as a five-door Greenbrier station wagon with six or nine seats, as a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan. The simplest model was the Nomad station wagon.

In 1971, the Chevelle  retained the 1970 body, it was treated to new front-end and rear-end styling new heavier bumpers and single headlights in the heavily contoured front. The front flashing lights sat together with the parking lights in their own housings on the protruding vehicle corners. The model range remained unchanged.SS had new dual round taillights were integral with the back bumper

In 1972, the appearance of the Chevelle remained almost unchanged, only the grille received a revised twin-bar grille two instead of a horizontal chrome trim. New were the series designations, which no longer distinguish between six-cylinder and V8 engine: 1B for the Nomad station wagon, 1C for the Chevelle sub-series, 1D for the Malibu sub-series and 1H for the luxury Concours Estate Wagon.

In five years, about 2,085,000 Chevelle of the 2nd generation.
