JB Petter & Sons was a British manufacturer of automobiles . The brand names were Petter and Yeovil.

History

The company from Yeovil originally produced engines. 1895 began the production of automobiles. From 1897 the production took place at the carriage manufacturer Hill & Boll in the same place.  In total, about twelve vehicles were created.A vehicle took in 1896 at the Emancipation Run , now known as the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. 1957,the company was taken over by Hawker Siddeley. In 1898 the production ended.1984 was with RA Lister and Company to Lister Petter .

1895 Petter brought out a small car with single-cylinder engine concentrating upon the development of oil and petrol engines. Ernest Petter, with his brother Percival, took to building of an "oil-motor carriage," which was undertaken by his firm in conjunction with Hill and Boll, carriage builders, of Yeovil.The power unit was a 1 h.p. oil engine, and, at the time of its appearance, we recorded that the total weight of the carriage,was 9 cwt, a speed or 10 miles an hour was claimed. The engine, we said that it started in ten minutes, ran without attention, and was almost noiseless.
The 3 HP matched in design and quality the products of many other contemporary car manufacturers, which later became market leaders. Soon the model 6 HP with a more powerful two-cylinder engine replaced this first vehicle. In addition, a model with an electric motor was created .
