As the successor to the British automaker MG, MG Motor UK Ltd was constructed in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The last assembly of automobiles ceased in the fall of 2016, and the corporation now sells two variants of the brand that are entirely manufactured in China.

The company became a successor to MG Cars Ltd. on April 12, 2006. and is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). Until the spring of 2009, the English subsidiary was named NAC MG UK Ltd. known and belonged to the Nanjing Automobile Group, which has since been bought by the SAIC.The work began in August 2008 with the final assembly of the MG TF LE500. In September 2010 came as the second model, finally, the MG 6 in the body with hatchback added. Later, the MG 3 and the second generation of the MG 5 were finally assembled from almost finished kits (semi-knock-down kits).

The final assembly with last 25 employees was discontinued in autumn 2016. Longbridge is also home to the SAIC Motor Technical Centre (SMTC), which designs and develops 400 models of the Chinese MG brand.
