The Clio IV was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September–October 2012, and sales began a month later. It comes in hatchback and estate body styles, with the latter becoming available in early 2013.

History

On July 3, 2012, it was formally introduced. It demonstrates extraordinarily low potential consumption with the "83 g " version of the conventional Renault 1.5 litre dCidiesel(3.2 L / 100 km in the combined cycle) and a new 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine compared to the previous generation. Despite being significantly longer, the Clio IV has the same chassis as the Clio III, but it sheds up to a hundred pounds.

The new Clio was designed by Laurens Van den Acker's team and is based on the DeZir concept car from 2010. It's the company's first automobile with advanced cosmetic and interior customisation, following in the footsteps of the Fiat 500 and Citroen DS3. It's also the first automobile to use acoustic nozzle technology in its loudspeakers to improve low-frequency sound quality. From the second level of completion, it comes with a multimedia touchscreen tablet with navigation software.

Renault Clio IV inside

The Clio IV was restyled in 2016 and presented at the 2016 Paris Motor Show .

The appearance of full LED headlights with a light signature in "C", reminiscent of the other productions of the brand. These are standard on the Intens, GT Line and Initiale Paris finishes (high-end finish of the Clio) .For the lower finishes, "simple" LED daytime running lights are now located at the bottom of the grille, near the fog lights .

The finish,of phase 1 of the Clio IV  is improved on phase 2 with new foamed plastics on the dashboard.

It is manufactured in Flins, France, and in Bursa, Turkey, where the estate will particularly be assembled.A notable difference from the previous generation is the wheelbase, which has been significantly extended and is now near to the one of a compact car. The length and the width have also been increased, but less significantly. The Clio IV features new equipment such as hands-free, rear camera connectivity with more than 50 applications (Renault R-Link infotainment system, powered by Android & TomTom) and a six-speed double clutch automatic gearbox that will be available starting early 2013.

  • 5-door / 5-seater sedan body at launch. An Estate estate version was launched in early 2013. A 3-door version is not planned, even at Renault Sport.
  • “B” platform initially launched on the Nissan Micra and Renault Modus  : MacPherson front suspension , rear torsion beam.
  • A version with a modified Renault Sport chassis (called RS) and an intermediate GT version appeared in 2013.

Engines

All engines, petrol or diesel are to Euro 5, however, for newer engines they can be labeled Euro 6. The standard transmission is a 5 or 6-speed manual gearbox but an "EDC" automatic gearbox with 6-speed dual-clutch is available as standard or as an option on some models.

The range of petrol engines consists of two options: a 1.2-litre 16 valve straight-4 engine, with a maximum power output of 75 hp (56 kW), and a turbocharged 0.9-litre 12 valve straight-3 engine, developing 90 hp (67 kW), which can have a CO2 emission level of 99 g/km. A second version of the 0.9-litre engine, with a peak power of 120 hp (89 kW), will be introduced in early 2013. A turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, capable of producing 197 hp (147 kW), will be featured on the Renault Sport version.

The diesel range has two versions of the 1.5 dCi straight-4 engine, one of 75 hp (56 kW) and one of 90 hp (67 kW), which can have a CO2 emission level of 83 g/km.
