The GTA 1300 Junior was a sports car built from 1968 to 1975 by Alfa Romeo.

History

The GTA 1300 Junior had a 1300 cc engine that was based on the 1600 engine but with a short stroke crankshaft. The GTA Junior in stradale form did not have many of the light weight features of the 1600 GTA, such as the plastic windows, magnesium engine components and alloy wheels. At start the engine produced 96 PS (71 kW; 95 hp) but was soon raised to 110 PS (81 kW; 110 hp). Autodelta prepared fuel injected racing cars had 165 PS (121 kW; 163 hp). 450 GTA Juniors were produced.

In June 1968, Alfa Romeo decided to replace the Sprint GTA with its successor, with a lower displacement but equally successful, the GTA 1300 Junior, which was built until 1975.

The car is the evolution of the 1600 with the addition of the brake booster and a new 1290 cm³ engine which in the road version delivers 96 HP at 6000 rpm and 12.1 Kgm at 5000 rpm but because it has a short stroke of 67.5 mm it was therefore capable of turning to much higher performance. The aesthetic changes were limited to new decals instead of the small triangular sticker with a green four-leaf clover on the front fenders, a large four-leaf clover and a stripe on the sides, a large snake on the hood and the sticker with the official name on the trunk in white on red body and green on white body. The rims remained in sheet steel as on the GT Junior.

In addition, Autodelta decided to homologate and market the version developed for competitions, equipped with a 145 HP engine at 7200 rpm and 14 kgm at 6500 rpm with Weber 45 DCOE carburettors and enlarged fiberglass mudguards placed on Dunlop Racing tires on rims with 9 "channel together with all the necessary precautions to race just after leaving the dealer. With the adoption of the" narrow "cylinder head (valves angled to each other in a" V "of 45 °) with single ignition and in 1971 the indirect mechanical injection power supply, the power increased to 150-160 hp and in 1974 even to 170-180 hp on the few examples equipped with a 16-valve cylinder head and dry sump oil system.
