Beverly Manufacturing Company , previously Upton Machine Company and later as Upton Motor Company , was an early American manufacturer of automobiles  The brand names as Upton and Beverly. 

History

Colcord Upton founded the Upton Machine Company in Beverly , Massachusetts in 1900 . There he completed the first prototype , which he presented in November 1900 on the very  first New York Automobile Show . 1901 followed by two more vehicles for test purposes. Only in the summer of 1902 began the production of automobiles for sale.  In July 1903, Upton left the company to form the Upton Motor Company with Milton Schnader to manufacture automobiles in Lebanon, PA because Colcord Upton was in possession of the trademark rights to Upton this name still remained. From 1904, the brand name changed in Beverly , Also in 1904 ended the vehicle production. In September 1905, the name changed to Beverly Manufacturing Company . It created power transmissions.Later In January 1908, the Cameron Car Company took over the company.

The first Upton vehicles had a single-cylinder engine from De Dion-Bouton with 3.5 hp . A self-developed planetary gearbox transferred the engine power to the rear axle.From 1902 to 1903 was also the four in the assortment. This had a self-produced four-cylinder engine with 16 hp. The chassis had 229 cm wheelbase . Then a five-seat touring car body was mounted. It is possible that only one copy was made of this.

The Beverly model was based on the previous four-cylinder model. However, the engine power had been raised to 22 hp. The grille had also been revised. The wheelbase remained unchanged. Unusually  fitted with were the early type of cornering headlight .
