The FiberSports, Inc. was an American sports car manufacturer from the 1950s in Bloomington, Illinois.
History
The sport was based on the Crosley Hotshot and had its chassis and engine as a kit or built car. The car was designed and developed by John C. Mays, a Bloomington
garage owner, sport car enthusiast and driver. Mays has been noted for his work with small displacement engines and has an outstanding reputation for speed tuning on domestic and foreign sport cars.On it a two seated roadster body made of fiberglass and is complete with doors, hood and trunk mounted and floorboards, seats and body moulded in one piece. The wheelbase was 86 inches (2159 mm). The headlights were behind the open grille.
The engine is a highly modified Crosley four-cylinder in-line engine which is coupled with a Morris 4-speed transmission. This has in stock form a displacement of 721 cc uprated 750cc and developed 25.5 bhp (19 kW) at 5200 rpm. With a 0-60 MPH time of 11 seconds. The top speed is in excess of 100 MPH (160 km / h). The car is driven through a stock Crosley rear axle.
The 498 kg car was finished from $2,400 to $ 2850 depending on spec, but was also available as a kit for $ 650, - or $ 750, depending on the thickness of the fiberglass weight of car is 1,100 pounds. Towards the end of the construction period, there was also a tubular frame on request.
