History
The car models Suzuki Cara (PG6SS) and Autozam AZ-1 are identical two-seater sports coupe with Gull wing doors, which were designed as a small kei-car at only 10ft 8in long and 4ft 5 in wide. Manufacturer and developer of both vehicle models was Suzuki. The AZ-1 was established under the Mazda car brand Autozam. The designer was Tatsumi Fukunaga, who presented the coupe as Suzuki RS / 3. The vehicle was also produced as Mazda AZ-550 and Mazda speed A-spec (PG6SA).
Depending on the market, there was the model with right or left-side drive. The Suzuki Cara, however, there was only in the Japanese market. The engine was a gasoline engine type F6A with a displacement of 657 cc and a power of 47 kW used. A mid-engine sports car. Powered by the fuel injected 660cc three-cylinder turbo charged motor with 4 valves per cylinder. The top speed was electronically governed to 87mph.
A less aggressive version, however, was the Mazda speed A-spec. Suzuki let this act as a rear-wheel drive. As well as the engine comes also the technical construction of the Autozam Carol, the sale started in September 1992 as Autozam AZ-1 and Mazda AZ-550. The Suzuki version, however, was only introduced on 27 January 1993 in the Japanese market. Alternatively, the Cara received engines from the Suzuki Cultus.
By the end of production only 531 units of the Suzuki Cara version were produced.
