The last Pontiac Parisienne was a model of the US automaker Pontiac on the G-platform , which still belonged to the local full size class  and was offered in Canada from 1957 to 1986 and in the US from 1982 to 1986.

History

Originally, the Parisienne was a Pontiac model sold in Canada. There Pontiac marketed since the late 1950s, not the models offered in the US, but vehicles that Chevrolet technology and Pontiac bodies linked together, the technical relationship between the full size cars of the two brands was always tight. These hybrid models also usually had their own names, for example Pontiac Laurentian (the Canadian counterpart to Catalina ) or Pontiac Parisienne (counterpart to Bonneville ).

While Pontiac in the US in 1981, the tail-driven full-size models from the offer, they remained in Canada for the local market in production. As from 1982, the US demand for large models rose again, the plant responded to it from the autumn of 1982 with the import of Parisienne from Canada. These vehicles were virtually the contemporary Chevrolet Caprice with modified grille, other taillights and Pontiac emblems; the bodies differed somewhat from the earlier Catalina and Bonneville from US production.

Offered were a basic model as a four-door sedan and five-door station wagon and a Parisienne Brougham called sedan with sophisticated equipment. The drive was made by a 3.8-liter V6 with three-speed or by a five-liter V8 with four-speed automatic transmission (standard in the station wagon). On request, there was also built at Oldsmobile 5.7-liter V8 diesel.

The sedans of the vintages 1985 and 1986 received the rear lights of the Bonneville of the vintage in 1981 and rear wheel arches. From 1985, a 4.3-liter V6 served as the base engine, 1986 accounted for the diesel.

After the model year 1986, the Parisienne was withdrawn from the offer again; the station wagon was available until the summer of 1989 under the name Pontiac Safari .
