The Opel Insignia was a superclass concept car from Opel . The model was presented for the first time to a broad public at the IAA 2003.

History

Special features of the Opel Insignia concept include the hydropneumatic suspension, the pantograph mechanism for the sliding door-like opening and closing of the rear vehicle doors, as well as the tailgate and LED lighting technology headlights. The purpose of the study was the exploration of technical and design possibilities .Fitted with a 5.7 liters V8 engine with 344 horsepower and rear wheel drive and large 21-inch wheels,.

In early 2005, Opel announced that this concept could not be put into mass production because it was too heavy, too expensive and too complicated. The upper class sedan therefore remained a pure concept study.

The successor of the Opel Vectra came in late 2008 under the name Opel Insignia on the market, but builds on the study of the mid-range car Opel GTC Concept .
