The Opel 4 PS was a early car from opel from the mid 1920s.

History

Opel 4 PS , popularly known as the Opel Laubfrosch , were passenger cars of the German manufacturer Adam Opel KG (from 1929 AG), which were produced between May 1924 and June 1931 in Rüsselsheim.

The basic model, the Opel 4/12 PS, was the first automobile constructed in Germany on a production line, and it was produced until 1926. The 4/14 PS was produced from 1924 to 1925, the 4/16 PS from 1925 to 1926, the 16.4 (18.4) PS from 1926 to 1930, and the 4/20 hp, commonly known as "1, 1 litre," was produced between 1929 and 1931.

The first Opel 4/12 horsepower rolled off the line in May 1924. In contrast to the conventional autos of the time, this was little and green rather than tall and black, earning it the nickname "tree frog." The car's one-liter engine allowed it to reach a top speed of 60 km/h.

The car was a plagiarism of the French Citroën 5CV or 5HP. In processes that were sought by Citroën at the time, the plagiarism allegation was rejected by German courts because of a different form of radiator grille. The most striking change was the green livery - Citroën painted the car lemon yellow. This plagiarism case is a possible interpretation attempt as this was same in green .

After a total of 119,484 cars of all versions came in July 1931, the successor Opel 1.2 liters on the market, predecessor of the Opel P4 and the Opel Kadett .

As a body variant Opel offered the 4/12 hp only an open two-seater with so-called "boat tail" and canvas top, there were other variants:

  • Two-seater luxury version: open model with modified rear (from 1925)
  • Three-seater: open 3-seater vehicle (from November 1924)
  • Four-seater: open 4-seater vehicle (from 1925)
  • Sedan: closed vehicle with three (from November 1924) or four (from 1925) seats
  • Vans: closed vehicle with rear door (from November 1924)
