The Mitsubishi 500 was first shown at the 1959 Tokyo Motor Show, and it became available in 1960.

History

The Mitsubishi 500 was the first car to Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd , one of the companies that later became Mitsubishi Motors have been built  . It cost 1960 ¥ 390,000, - and was of an air-cooled, mounted in the rear two-cylinder inline engine with 493 cm 3 capacity and a power of 20 HP (15 kW) at 5000 rpm. The engine was equipped with a single downdraft carburetor and the engine power was transmitted via a manual three-speed gearbox to the rear wheels.

In 1961, the car got a bigger engine with 594 cc capacity with better acceleration. This model was offered as Mitsubishi 500 Super DeLuxe . it was given an enlarged 25 PS (18 kW) 594 cc engine (NE35A) in August 1961 for improved acceleration and durability.

1962, the car was revised and was called Colt 600 from now on .The succeeding Colt 600 used a great deal of the 500 Super DeLuxe's underpinnings, including the engine and layout.
