Magna Sport -Lightspeed Panels Automotive kit Car manufacturer of United Kingdom From 1972 to 1988.

Magna Sport , previously Lightspeed Panels , was a British manufacturer of kit type automobiles from the early 70s to late 80s .

History

Steve Johnson founded in 1972 the company Lightspeed Panels in Barnsley in the county of South Yorkshire . He started producing automobiles and kits . The brand name was magenta . By 1986, the company changed in Magna Sport , as the company moved to the then County of Cleveland in northeast England. In 1988 the production ended. In total, about 600 copies were made.

Magenta

The first model from 1972 remained on offer until 1988. The base formed a tubular frame chassis. Many parts came from the Austin 1100 , as well as the suspension. In 1978, the chassis was modernized. The four-person open body is described as a mix between a traditional roadster and buggy . A hardtop with gullwing doors was available. From this model created around 500 copies.

LSR

This model appeared in 1979. It was the two-seat variant of the first model and based on the Ford Escort . By 1986, 40 copies were made.

Sprint

From similar Sprint , which was based on the mini , emerged between 1980 and 1986 about 20 copies.

Tarragon

Totally different was the Tarragon . The body with a large tailgate was a mixture of station wagon and combo coupe . The basis formed the Ford Escort the first or second generation with front engine and rear wheel drive. Between 1982 and 1985 Lightspeed produced about 35 copies.

TXR

The successor of the Tarragon had been changed in the rear area. He was now based on the Ford Capri . Between 1985 and 1986 seven copies were made.
