The Mercedes-Benz M127 is a six-cylinder - petrol engine from Mercedes-Benz with mechanical manifold injection , which was produced from 1958 to 1967.

The engine M 127 was derived from the M-180 gasoline engine and has like this 2.2 liter displacement . For use in the W113 convertible ("Pagoden-SL") it was enlarged to 2.3 liters and equipped with a six-piston injection pump (M 127 II).

Six cylinders in series; Cast iron engine block ; Cylinder head made of cast aluminum ; an overhead camshaft in the cylinder head ( OHC valve control ); two valves per cylinder; Camshaft drive Duplex roller chain, mechanical Bosch intake manifold injection with characteristic map control for two parameters by means of copy-milled space cam ("potato"); Crankshaft with four main bearings

M127 (2.2 liter displacement)

Bore and stroke: 80 mm × 72.8 mm; Displacement: 2196 cc; Compression ratio: 8.7: 1; Two- stroke injection pump with distributors; Maximum power: 115 hp at 4800 rpm (120 hp from August 1959); Maximum torque max: 186 Nm at 3800 rpm (189 Nm at 3900 rpm from August 1959);

  • Mercedes-Benz 220 SE sedan (W128, "Ponton", 1958-1959)
  • Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupe / Convertible (W128, "Ponton", 1958-1960)
  • Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Sedan (W111 "Tailfin", 1959-1965)
  • Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb Coupe / Cabriolet (W111C, 1961-1965)

M127 II (2.3 liter displacement)

1963, the M127 was drilled for use in the sports car SL and increased performance. The bore has been increased by 2 mm to 82 mm; Thus, the displacement increased from 2196 to 2306 cc. Technical data of the motor M127 II:

Bore and stroke: 82 mm × 72.8 mm
Displacement: 2306 cm³
Six-piston injection pump
Compression ratio: 9.3: 1
Maximum power: 150 hp at 5500 rpm
Maximum torque: 196 Nm at 4200 rpm
