The M 260 / M 264 is a four-cylinder in line petrol engine from Mercedes-Benz .

The M 260 / M 264 is a successor to the M 270 / M 274 and part of a new, modular engine generation that will include 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engines as well as 4 and 6 cylinder gasoline engines . A high number of identical parts are used. The displacement of the four-cylinder in - line engine is 1991 cm³ with a bore of 83 mm and a stroke of 92 mm, with a cylinder spacing of 90 mm. The compression ratiois 10.5 with aluminum four-valve cylinder head . 

The change of charge is controlled by four valves per cylinder ( four-valve technology ) and two overhead camshafts driven by a timing chain . On the inlet side, the M264 has the variable valve control CAMTRONIC .The engine has a TwinScroll - turbocharger with an electric wastegate actuator. The twin-scroll loader combines the exhaust gas channels of two cylinders each in a flow-optimized manifold.
