The Mazda MX-3 (Code: EC) is a four-seat sports coupe with front-wheel drive, self-supporting body, large tailgate and 289 liters of luggage space. Base is the platform of the Mazda 323 .
Debut of the MX-3 in 1991. Abroad, the model under various names was offered: In North America , it was named Mazda MX-3 Precidia , in Japan and other markets, it was considered Eunos Presso or Autozam AZ-3. The model caused a stir, among other things, by the fact that it was the smallest six-cylinder engine at the time (only 1.85 liters capacity) .In particular, the version with the V6 engine,, has comparatively good driving performance in view of the engine performance, also due to the low vehicle weight, the low center of gravity and the short-stepped five-speed gearbox, which has a top speed of 202 km / h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds. For the 'quarter mile' the V6 needs 16.8 s.The four-cylinder versions accelerate with five-speed gearbox in 10.5 s from 0 to 100 km / h and reach about 180 km / h.
The vehicle is 4.22 m long, the wheelbase is 2.46 m, the track at the front of 1,460 mm and 1,465 mm at the rear. The wheels are individually on MacPherson struts and transverse links suspended, rear two wishbone and are trailing arm installed, a similar suspension used by Lancia. The rear suspension is designed provided good cornering. The V6 model was equipped with a rear spoiler. The 1.6 l SOHC 16 V four-cylinder gasoline engine with 65 kW (88 hp) Also a1,845 cc displacement as a V6 engine with 98 kW (133 hp) and 157 Nm of torque; The engine block is made of aluminum, its cylinder bank angle is 60 °. With 2.0 l of displacement, this engine was installed in the Mazda Xedos 6 . Both engines of the MX-3 had a manual switch a five-speed gearbox.
From 1994, the facelift model was equipped with ABS , four disc brakes (front 257 mm ventilated, rear 251 mm), driver and passenger airbags and side impactprotection. The interior has a redesigned dashboard with round air outlets, the front seats have been changed and the windows are now, like the exterior mirrors and the surcharge sunroof, electrically operated (except the special model Youngster , which was available without ABS and airbags). The four-cylinder with 16 valves became a DOHC engine with 79 kW (107 hp)The six-cylinder option with 24 valves now produced 95 kW (129 hp). All engines had a toothed cambelt. By the end of 1994, the sale of the car in the US was discontinued, 1996, also in Canada. Production stopped in autumn 1996. In Europe and Asia, the coupe was sold until 1998.
