History

Even before the acquisition of the Standard Motor Company by Leyland Motors the development began with the  Leyland 2-ton truck as a supplement for commercial vehicles for Leyland this had a payload of 2000 kg .A 2-tonner Leyland heavy-weight. Commercial. Tested under a full 2-Ton payload, its The Leyland OE 138 54 bhp diesel Wich a fuel consumption over 30 mpg at 30 mph.checks to the engine can be made by simply lifting the crews bench seatthat hinges forward to get to engine head and cooling system.Front grille access exposes the brake clutch fluid reservoir, steering box, shock absorbers and battery.

The engine was a Massey Ferguson OE138-2260 cc diesel engine with 44 kW / 60 hp, which was also installed in the Ferguson tractors The power was transmitted to the rear axle. With short or long wheelbase.Around to the Cab is Undersealed and is strong and silent Combined with a headlining Of glass fibre with rubber mountings so the driver has less noise and vibration. Three seats and built as as box van , minibus , flatbed , ambulance  and chassis available for custom bodies. The short version had 2850 mm wheelbase and was 3048 mm long, the long version brought it to 3430 mm wheelbase and a length of 3920 mm.

Depending on the wheelbase, the standard panel van with 9.3 m or 11.3 m loading volume, and various bodywork solutions were also implemented by bodybuilders up to 28 m³ loading volume. Lower wheelbase versions for lower payload and lower load capacity were not realized because Leyland Motors took over the Standard Motor Company in the same year, offering the standard Atlas as Leyland 15/20 .

As Leyland Motors 1968 with the British Motor Corporation of British Leyland merged, the production of the Leyland 2-ton truck and the Leyland 15/20 will no longer compete with the additional models BMC J4 , BMC 250 JU and the newly designed BMC 350 EA , who replaced the 2-tonner to have.
