Off-road capability / chassis

For optimal traction under different weather and road conditions, the all-wheel drive systems Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II to care. Select terrain System and Quadra Lift-Air suspension should improve the chassis properties. With the Select Terrain-System, the wagon can be adjusted to different surfaces such as mud, sand or stony terrain; it coordinates up to twelve different systems such as stability and traction control, torque distribution, switching points and gas acceptance.

The Grand Cherokee has a terrain reduction, a blocking middle differential and a locking rear axle differential. The wattage is 500 mm.

The Quadra Lift-Air suspension makes it possible to raise the jeep to a ground clearance of 270 mm at the push of a button –, for example, for trips over rocks or due to snow drifts. Model maintenance 2013

For the model year 2014, the Grand Cherokee was slightly revised and received, among other things, newly designed headlights and taillights as well as modified bumpers. From model year 2014, the Grand Cherokee will also be available in the USA with the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine and an output of 184 kW. Like the petrol engines, the engine is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF. The 3.6 V6 Pentastar petrol engine received a weaker gearbox and thus less trailer load, similar to the Summit equipment line, where the trailer load was reduced for approval reasons. The Summit and the SRT are approved as cars, while the other versions are approved as off-road vehicles.

Also new are the equipment line „Summit “and the optional interior „Laguna “. Seats and door panels are partially covered with a leather with a diamond pattern. The lower panels of the door and that of the centre console also look like leather. Alternatively, SRT sports seats can now be ordered.

The sports model got a slight increase in performance to 354 kW for the home market and is now simply called Grand Cherokee SRT designated.

In addition, the new equipment line „Trail hawk “was the most off-road variant in the model range to date. The Trail hawk is positioned in price and in terms of equipment between the well-known equipment lines „Limited “and „Overland “. It is also standard with reinforced underbody protection, air suspension, electronic locking differential, railing reduction (Quadra Drive II all-wheel drive system), special off-road tires (all-terrain) from Goodyear, air-conditioned sports seats from the SRT and a glare protection on the bonnet. It is the most powerful variant of the Jeep Grand Cherokees for off-road trips.

The Trailhawk is only available in connection with the 3.0 l V6 diesel engine or the 3.6 l V6 petrol engine. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is not available for the Trailhawk in Europe.
