The Grand Cherokee WK was introduced in 2004 as a 2005 model. Jeep innovations that were on the program for the first time were the all-wheel drive system Quadra-Drive II, a DVD player for the rear and, if desired, a 5.7 l Hemi V8 engine.

The construction continues to emphasize performance and luxury, but efforts had been made to reduce noise and vibrations. For the first time, however, Jeep placed as much emphasis on good road properties as on the excellent terrain suitability typical of the brand.

This new concentration on the driving characteristics on paved roads prompted Jeep, the rigid axle at the front with longitudinal steering elements (as in the ZJ and WJ) through a Single wheel suspension with double wishbones as presented in 2002 Jeep Liberty to replace. Chrysler thus responded to the increased demand for SUVs with lower off-road capability that could be driven better on asphalt roads. Although the new construction on washboard slopes is perceived as softer, the front suspension was replaced by the clientele that uses the jeep off-road because of the smaller possible ones Axis restriction criticized especially for slow driving manoeuvres on uneven terrain.

Three engines and two equipment variants were available for market launch in Europe. The Mercedes-Benz-Diesel was just like the small V8 engine in both Laredo as well as in Limited to have the 5.7 Liter hemi only in the upscale Limited-Variant. Among other things, there was a special equipment DVD-Navigation system with integrated CD-Change for election, also was in the Limited a so-called Exclusive package available that leather- and Chromium applications inside included.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK (2005-2010)

The top model SRT8 with the large 6.1 Liter V8 was in the price lists from 2006. A full equipment including navigation system and leather sports seats is standard.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee model year 2007 was in Europe on the Euro Camp Jeep in Ardèche department, France, presented. This year came the luxury equipment Overland for the diesel and the hemi. The Limited Exclusive-Package and a navigation system were on board as standard, as was the metallic-Lactification and a sunroof.

In 2008 the Jeep Grand Cherokee received a small one Model care. Among other things, those in the Overland were new xenon-Headlights and a revised interior with a new one Touchscreen-Navigation system. In Europe, only the SRT8 and the Mercedes-Benz diesel were offered in the 2008 model year.

With the model year 2009, the revised 5.7-liter hemi also returned to the Europe program. He now produced 259 kW (352 hp) and was only in the high-quality Overland Equipment available. Otherwise, the model range with the SRT8 and the diesel remained unchanged except for the larger exterior mirrors and the revised navigation system.

Three all-wheel drive systems were offered: the standard was in the Laredo- and since 2008 in Limited- Equipment variant that Quadra-Trac II-All-wheel drive system, a fully automatically controlled four-wheel drive with off-road reduction. Initially in all equipment (except for the petrol engine in Laredo) and since 2008 the Overland-Line was reserved for the Quadra-Drive-II-Drive, the additional three hydraulic one’s Differential barriers with electronic control. Only in SRT-8 was the Quadra-Trac Active on Demand-All-wheel drive offered, a demand-controlled all-wheel drive without terrain reduction.

Equipment lines and special models

Similar to the predecessor, the one offered since 2005 Laredo the basic variant with fabric seats. This is followed by the one equipped with leather and seat heating Limited and the fully equipped one since 2007 Overland. The one also offered since 2006 SRT8 has a different, better leather interior and a standard navigation system.

For the 2007 model year, Jeep offered the special model S-Limited with modified front apron, 18-inch light metal wheels, leather-covered steering wheel and aluminium panels in the interior. A navigation system is also standard and the front grill is completely painted black.

One SRT-8 version of the Grand Cherokee was released on the New York International Auto Show Introduced in 2005. The SRT-8 is powered by a 313-kW version (420 bhp / 426 hp) of the 6.1 Liter Chrysler V8 hemi and has stronger ones Brembo-Brakes, large exhaust pipes with chrome-plated ends in the middle of the rear, reinforced gas pressure shock absorbers, modified Wheel suspensions, a special one Pending gear, an electronic All-wheel drive system and also better equipment.

Not all built-in engines were offered everywhere: the 3.7 Liter with 157 kW and the 4.7 Liter with 175/227 kW were only sold in the USA In Europe, only the diesel, and the 4.7 Liter and the Hemi-V8 were available for the introduction. Later the SRT8 was added. The 4.7-liter high-performance machine, which first appeared in the Grand Cherokee Overland WJ, was dropped and was now only used in Dodge Dakota used. The standard 4.7 Liter was in America as Flex Fuel-Engine offered, can therefore with ethanol be operated. The factory information on performance may differ slightly in the various markets. Since its introduction, Jeep has offered a V6 common rail diesel from Mercedes-Benz at. It is based on that used in many Mercedes models OM 642 and produces 3.0 CRD 160 kW (218 hp) and 510 Nm. The diesel particle filter is standard. The power is transmitted by a Mercedes five-stage automatic.
