The Kaiser Jeepster Commando is an automobile which was first produced by Kaiser Jeep in 1966.

History

The Jeepster was a Jeep brand car. The first Jeepster was offered in 1948 by Willys-Overland, in 1966, the name reappeared in a new model, the Jeepster Commando C-101 by Kaiser Jeep. Again, the sales could not meet the expectations and the new owner AMC in 1973 to stop production.

The Jeepster lived again in 1966 in the form of the Jeepster Commando C-101. For the Jeepster Commando a number of body styles were available: a station wagon, a convertible, a pickup and a roadster. A particularly noteworthy offer was the deluxe combination with rear sliding windows and full equipment. In some cases, the vehicles also had a two-colour finish.Inside the 'Jeepster Commando wagon, there are foam-molded front bucket and rear bench seats, single 4-wheel drive shift lever and a choice of trim packages that include deluxe seats, door-to-door Carpets, slide-open rear quarter windows and many other luxury appointments. Sporty console shift is also available with either manual Or automatic transmissions. And to power the 160 horsepower Dauntless V-6 engine option Or thestandard Hurricane 4-cylinder engine.
Off-center rear springs that are nearly five feet long and a front stabilizer bar provide smooth riding, easy-handling features.

The Hurst Jeepster with modifications by Hurst Performance had a special Hurst Dual-Gate shifter with the optional automatic transmission a special paint in Champagne White with red and blue stripes, and speedometer on the hood fitted with Goodyear G70 x 15 tyres. The convertible was available in three versions: Revival Jeepster, Commando Cabriolet and an open roadster completely without body. The revival Jeepster was the showpiece in the program: he had a particularly luxurious interior, an electric hood and a rear mounted, upright spare wheel with cover ("Continental Kit"). The Commando Cabriolet had the same body, but only the basic equipment.

Engines:

  • 1966-1971: 2.2 litres - R4 - Willys Hurricane engine F134, 75 bhp (55 kW) and 154 Nm
  • 1966-1971: 3.7 litres - V6 - Kaiser Dauntless engine, 160 bhp (119 kW) and 318 Nm

The counter-steering four-cylinder in-line engine Willys Hurricane - a direct descendant of the former Go-Devil engines - and finally a four-wheel drive was used. This engine developed 75 bhp (55 kW) at 4,000 rpm. and a torque of 154 Nm at 2,000 / min. On request, there was the 160 bhp (119 kW) Kaiser-dauntless engine. The V6 developed a torque of 318 Nm.
