Nitrocellulose lacquers Finishes

The use of Nitrocellulose lacquer explained.

Nitrocellulose lacquers are a blend of nitrocellulose and synthetic resins. The nitrocellulose content imparts rapid drying characteristics. The synthetic resin content gives the high build, gloss from the gun colour and gloss retention properties.
Nitrocellulose lacquers dry by evaporation of solvent only. As the initial rate of solvent evaporation is extremely rapid, so is the speed of surface dry. However, some solvent is retained for a longer period. For full dry and hardness, a 16-hour drying period is necessary. When properly applied a nitrocellulose lacquer will dry to a level film with a high gloss. If necessary, polishing can be carried out to remove slight imperfections in the film, and to achieve a higher gloss level.
As the final appearance of the paint film dependent on the use of a good-quality thinner, it is essential to use the one recommended by the
paint manufacturer.
