Paint Drying problems

 

This section includes Paint Drying problems ,slow drying, wet spots and tack.
Wet spots are difficult to repair, and for good results they should be removed, thoroughly cleaned, and repainted.General slow drying may be overcome by application of low heat. Use caution: if the condition is due to extra heavy coats, wrinkling may develop.


Cause
1. Poor ventilation in drying area.
2. Oil in airline. Wrong type or poor-quality thinner.
3. Improper materials mixed with undercoat or colour.
4. Application of too much material.
5. Painting over surface contaminated with wax, silicone, oil, fingermarks, petrol residue or paint stripper.
6. Atmosphere too humid or too cold.
7. Drier left out of synthetic enamel.


Prevention
1. Clean surfaces thoroughly with a wax and grease remover prior to painting.
2. Keep airlines free of oil. Keep compressor in good condition to prevent oil leakage into lines.
3. Use amount and type of thinner recommended by the paint manufacturer.
4. Do not mix anything with materials except as specifically recommended by the paint manufacturer.
5. Avoid piling on too heavy coats and too much material.
6. Make sure drying area maintains fresh air circulation.
7. Maintain steady temperature of drying room at about 21 °c to obtain satisfactory drying.
