Paint Chipping Problems

Paint Chipping Problems

Usually caused by flying gravel or bumping of corners or edges.  Excess film thicknesses. Bad roads weather conditions, coastal areas, sand storms and so on.
Insufficient adhesion of colour to primer or primer to metal. Finishes which are brittle tend to chip easily.

Prevention

1. Use reliable materials according to directions.Use quality Wax or protecter but avoid excess film thicknesses
2. Keep distance from heavy goods or four wheel drive vehicles that have deep tyre treads that can hold and release stones in them at high speed on poor roads.

Repair

1. Mild chipping is usually touched up with enamel using the point of a small brush to improve appearance and delay rusting.
2. Severe chipping requires complete re-finishing operations.
