The Honda Element is a compact crossover SUV based on a modified Honda CR-V platform and produced in East Liberty, Ohio . It was offered exclusively in North America between 2002 and 2011.
History
The element followed a concept vehicle called Model X , which was first shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It was developed by a core group of young R & D engineers in 1998. The Model X is designed to be the ideal vehicle for your activities: combining a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle, They wanted a vehicle that they could use for driving by using outdoor sports equipment, and conducted informal studies at colleges, beaches, campgrounds and in the mountains. The 4-seater interior was optimized to be able to carry large loads in addition. The floor is made of textured urethane, which is easy to clean, the fabric is sturdy and dirt-repellent, the individual seats in the rear collapsible and removable.
The rear side doors are hinged at the rear, but no suicide doors because they can not be opened when the front doors are not open. The design dispenses with B-pillars to provide unimpeded access for side loading. Drive is a Honda 2.4-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with 166 hp (124 kW) at 5500 / min and 217 Nm of torque at 4500 / min. There were five-speed manual transmission and four-speed (later five-speed) automatic transmission .
The element was available with front-wheel drive or optional Honda's "Real Time" four-wheel drive system.
2007 was a slight revision with now 10 hp increase to 176 hp along with a five-speed automatic transmission and an integrated seat belt system in the front seats. Likewise, side airbags were now standard equipment as well as electronic stability control. The plastic grille grille was replaced by silver-colored fins similar to the 2005 Honda CR-V.
In December 2010, Honda announced the cessation of production of the element until the end of the 2011 model year. The company said that the declining business with the item (slightly more than 14,000 copies sold in 2010) was the impetus for the decision compared to other Honda SUVs. By then, 325,000 units had been sold.
