At the beginning of 2011, the second model generation of the Ford Kuga was introduced at the LA Auto Show with production from 2012 .

History

The Ford Kuga is a car model of the car manufacturer Ford . It is of an SUV type ,the first generation First debuted  in autumn 2007.The second generation appeared in the spring of 2013 on the basis of the Ford Focus '11 and is as a world car largely identical to the already since mid-2012 on the US market offered Ford Escape .

This follows the "One Ford" strategy, similar to the Ford Focus , the second generation is a world car to save development costs. The design of the vehicle is based on the first model generation of the Ford Kuga. In North America , the SUV as a third model generation under the name Ford Escape already since mid-2012 available, the production for the North American market is in Louisville (Kentucky) .

In Europe, the market launch took place on 9 March 2013, the model was first presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. The vehicles are built for the European market in the Spanish Almussafes plant near Valencia.

The luggage compartment of the second Kuga generation is 46 liters larger than its predecessor. In addition, the folded rear seats together with the height-adjustable luggage compartment floor form a continuous flat loading area.

The vehicle was equipped for the first time in Geneva with an automatically opening tailgate with foot sensor. For this purpose, a sensor is mounted under the rear bumper, which detects the foot movement of a person standing directly behind the vehicle and then unlocks the tailgate and electrically opens. Stopping heavy or bulky items is not necessary to open the tailgate.

The Ford Kuga is equipped as standard with an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution and electronic stability program with traction control and "torque vectoring control" . In addition, it has front and side airbags and head and shoulder airbags front and rear, plus belt tensioners and belt force limiters in the front, safety pedals and Isofix child seat mounts to the two outer seats of the rear row of seats.

At the end of 2016, the 2017 model was accompanied by a comprehensively revised facelift version of the Kuga. This differs above all by a new, similar to the Ford Edge front design and heavily modified rear design and among other things by additionally integrated assistance systems (eg adaptive cruise control including collision warning, optimized Active City stop, lane and blind spot assistant, traffic sign recognition) one still changed steering characteristics and larger equipment ranges from the previous version. In addition, the dashboard has been made clearer and more modern and introduced the third generation of the Ford SYNC infotainment system. Despite partly significantly upgraded equipment, the starting price of the facelift model remained constant.

Ford Kuga Second generation

The Kuga is available in five different trim levels, "Trend", "Titanium", "Cool & Connect", "ST-Line" and "Vignale", as well as the special equipment "Black & Silver.

The "Trend" version features sports seats, air conditioning, the Ford Power Start function with start button, electric windows front and rear, CD radio with remote control, height and reach adjustable steering column, electrically adjustable and heated mirrors, fog lights, daytime running lights and a split folding rear seat with adjustable backrests.

The "Titanium" equipment also features leather-upholstery with adjustable lumbar support on the driver's side, two-zone automatic climate control, auto-dimming rear view mirror, windshield wiper with rain sensor, cruise control system, day / night headlight, rollover protection system RSC ( "Roll Stability Control"), a rear center armrest with integrated cupholders and 17-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the Ford SYNC voice-controlled connectivity system is standard on Titanium-equipped vehicles.

Since the facelift, the Kuga is also sold in the trim levels "ST-Line"  and "Vignale"

Engines

For the Kuga stood in Europe from the beginning of a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine in two power levels, with 110 kW (150 hp) or 134 kW (182 hp) and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 103 kW ( 140 hp) or 120 kW (163 hp).

The smaller engines were only available with a manual six-speed transmission, the stronger gasoline engine with six-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful diesel engine was available with either the smaller engine manual transmission or Ford PowerShift automatic transmission. Vehicles with the two more powerful engines had standard four-wheel drive, which was optional for the smaller diesel engine and not available at the base gasoline engine. These models were instead equipped with front-wheel drive.

In the United States , the Ford Escape is also offered with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. All engines meet the Euro 5 emission standard .

Since October 2014, there are new engines: in gasoline engines, a 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 110 kW (150 hp) and 134 kW (182 hp) replaced the equally powerful 1.6-liter engine, while the diesel engines in increased performance and an additional, weaker variant with 88 kW (120 hp) were added. Since June 2016, a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine is also available with 88 kW (120 hp).

In the facelift model, a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 178 kW (242 hp) has been available since autumn 2017.

The third generation was released in 2019.
