The Fiat Talento first generation is a short wheelbase version of the Fiat Ducato 1st series van, produced from 1989 to 1994 for the Italian market.
History
The Fiat Talento went to fill the FIAT range again with a void, left by the exit of the Fiat 900 and the Fiat 238 vans.
The Fiat Talento was a light commercial vehicle. It could only have a low roof and instead of the classic lateral sliding door it had a hinged door that was much shorter. The production ceased along with that of the Ducato 1st series which in 1994 gave way to the new model. The joint venture Sevel by Fiat and PSA in the commercial vehicle sector.
The Fiat Talento and its sister models had a five-speed gearbox and column shifters. The driver's cab was therefore continuously accessible without a conventional shift lever. In the meantime, the competition has also taken over this detail. In addition, the front-wheel drive vehicles could optionally be ordered with all-wheel drive with the 2.5 TD with 95 hp (70 kW) was one of the pioneers of delivery vans with a high-top speed. This engine was not available for Peugeot, Citroën and Talbot models. The 75 hp (55 kW) 2.5-litre diesel engine without supercharging, on the other hand, was also available in the Iveco Daily I; the maximum speed with this engine was 125 km/h. The 2.5 litre naturally aspirated diesel engine is considered durable, mature and robust. At high speeds of the diesel engines, the noise level in the driver's cab was very high. The front wheels were individually suspended on MacPherson struts and wishbones, at the rear there was a rigid axle on leaf springs with telescopic shock absorbers. Depending on the model variant and equipment, the curb weight was around 1500 kg, so that the 2.8-tonners could carry up to 1300 kg. A long - wheelbase model was also offered, just as the panel vans were also available with a high roof. There were disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes installed on the rear wheels. A brake booster was standard, but no power steering. The spare wheel was attached above the engine in the engine compartment via a plastic plate with a screw. The handbrake was operated via a brake lever to the left of the driver's seat. There was a storage box under the driver's seat.
The short-wheelbase models sold as the Fiat Talento from March 1989. At the same time, the Ducato Type 280 was revised and the Type 290 came onto the market. The interior and technology have been improved and the window section in the doors has been changed for better all-round visibility. From July 1990 only the type 290 was offered.
In February 1994 the production of the first Fiat Talento. In 2016 the vehicle name is reused.
