BMW B47 four-cylinder diesel engine
Manufacturer :BMW Production period: since 2014

Line four-cylinder Displacement variants :2.0 l (1995 cm 3 ) Previous model: BMW N47
The B47 is a turbocharged four-cylinder - diesel engine of the automobile manufacturer BMW . Completely redeveloped, he debuted in 2014 in the BMW X3 and replaced the predecessor N47 . Together with the B37 ( row three-cylinder diesel engine is) and the B57 ( six-cylinder diesel engine is) and the three Otto engines B38 ( three-cylinder ), B48 ( four-cylinder ) and B58 ( six-cylinder), the B47 belongs to the modular construction engines introduced by BMW in 2013/2014. The modular engines are used in BMW models as well as in MINI models.
Like its predecessor N47 , the B47 has four cylinders in series, a common-rail injection , 1,995 cc displacement and also uses balance shafts . The volume of 500 cc per cylinder resulted from thermodynamic and efficiency considerations . In most variants antifriction bearing turbocharger is adjustable turbine guide vanes installed, the strongest expansion stages (165 kW and 170 kW) are equipped with two turbochargers, both parallel to the principle of turbocharging and connected in series with multi-stage charge can work.
In addition, in the development of the acoustic behavior of the engine was important. Here is u. a. the combustion is nail-optimized by the injection system, and various sound sources are encapsulated .
Compared to the N47 , the B47 offers more power and higher torque over the entire speed range in all expansion stages . This provides better acceleration and elasticity values. A new combustion chamber pressure sensor also makes it possible to operate the engine closer to its optimum point on the combustion side . The B47 complies with the EU6 emissions standard and, depending on the variant and gearbox , lowers the standard fuel consumption by 0.1 to 0.4 liters compared to the N47 .
By equal parts , which are also used in other new engines, such as the three-cylinder diesel B37 , as well as the petrol engines of the modular system, there is a greater flexibility in production fluctuations in demand and cost reduction.
In November 2017 it was announced that all variants received the bit turbocharger: Technical revision B47TÜ1. Further, all engines received an Adblue injection. Higher injection pressures - at the 218d 2500 bar and the 220d even 2700 bar (Tourer), - as well as detailed improvements in forms and surfaces of cylinder liners ( shaping ofthe cylinder liners) and piston, belt drive and oil supply contribute to a lower fuel consumption. For the strong variants are used solenoid injectors.

The S55 is an inline six-cylinder engine with twin-turbo charging from the car manufacturer BMW , which builds on the BMW N55 . The Biturbo was mid-2014 in the new BMW M3 (F80) and BMW M4 (F82) introduced. With the end of the last generation of the BMW M3 (E90) , the chapter on high-performance intake engine at BMW was closed. This predecessor M3 had a 309 kW (420 hp) high-speed V8 engine with four liters displacement ( BMW S65 ).
The new six-cylinder is superior to it in torque and in non-full-load situations in consumption; In normal road traffic two to three liters less fuel to be consumed.
The S55 has the same dimensions of bore and stroke and an aluminum crankcase as the N55; however, the latter is designed in a closed-deck construction in order to achieve a higher rigidity and to be able to work with higher combustion pressures; unlike its basic model he has in addition to the two turbochargers a water intercooler mounted on the motor on top.
In addition to the crankcase made of aluminum, the following three features of the weight saving serve: Instead of inserts, the cylinder liners are sprayed with electric arc ; also the cylinder head is made of aluminum; Magnesium is used for the oil sump . The crankshaft is made of steel, forged and hardened. The final speed is 7600 min -1 .

The two overhead camshafts are controlled by VANOS , which now allows faster adjustments, the valves through the Valvetronic III.As with the N55, the exhaust valves are sodium-filled.
In the most powerful version with 368 kW (500 hp) in the BMW M4 GTS (2015) water injection is used.
Since 2016, the BMW M3 (F80) and BMW M4 (F82) with the additional Competition package is available, which raises the performance of the S55 to 331 kW (450 hp).
Also available since September 2018 BMW M2 "Competition" Coupe is equipped with the S55 engine. Here it delivers 302 kW (405 hp) and delivers a maximum torque of 550 Nm (406 lbf · ft). BMW also uses the S55 to be able to comply with stricter emission limits with the M2.

Tritec Straight-4 Petrol engine
The Tritec engine (also known as Pentagon) is a four-cylinder petrol engine that was manufactured between 1999 and 2007 by Tritec Motors in Brazil and was used in various cars including Chrysler and Mini models.
Tritec Motors Ltda
In 1997, Chrysler Corporation and Rover Group (then a subsidiary of BMW) formed a joint venture called Tritec Motors to design a new small straight-4 engine. The new company built a factory in Campo Largo of Curitiba, Brazil specifically to manufacture the new engine. The Tritec name stands for the union of the three countries involved: Germany, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.
When BMW broke up the remains of Rover Group in 2000, BMW kept the stake in Tritec Motors as the engine was in use in the Mini range which BMW had retained. In 2007 BMW sold its 50% stake to DaimlerChrysler and cancelled its contract for the Tritec engine. BMW entered into a new joint venture with PSA Peugeot Citroen to develop the Prince engine which is used in the second generation Mini cars.
The factory had a capacity of 400,000 engines a year, and in 2006 production was around 200,000 engines. Production ceased in June 2007 following the ending of the joint venture.
In March 2008 Fiat Powertrain Technologies bought the plant and licenses to produce Tritec engines at a cost of €83 million, and in 2010 subsequently launched its own E.torQ engine.
Engine details
It is a modern engine with an SOHC 16-valve head, electronic throttle control, and meets Euro VI emissions requirements. There are three versions of the engine, 1.4 L, 1.6 L, and supercharged 1.6 L.
BMW complained about the performance of the engine. According to Ward's Auto, Erich Sonntag of BMW described the Tritec engine as old fashioned and not very effective on function, performance and fuel efficiency.
1.4(T14a)
The 1.4 L (1397 cc) version uses a 77 mm (3.0 in) bore and 75 mm (3.0 in) stroke. Like all Tritecs, it is an SOHC 16-valve cast iron engine with an aluminium cylinder head and multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection. Output is rated at 55 kW (75 PS; 74 hp) and 122 N·m (90 lb·ft).
Applications:
- Mini One (Portugal, Greece) (until 2008)
1.6(T16b3)
The 1.6 L (1598 cc) version uses the same 77 mm (3.0 in) bore with a longer 85.8 mm (3.38 in) stroke. Output is rated at 66 kW (90 PS; 89 hp) and 140 N·m (100 lb·ft) in the Mini One, and 85 kW (116 PS; 114 hp) and 149 N·m (110 lb·ft) in the Mini Cooper.

- Chery A15 (Flagcloud)
- Chrysler Neon (in non-US markets)
- Chrysler PT Cruiser (in non-US markets)
- Lifan 620
- Lifan 520
- Mini Hatch and Convertible (until 2008).
1.6 SC(T16b4)
The 1.6 SC uses a Roots-type Eaton M45 supercharger with intercooler. The compression ratio is reduced from 10.5:1 to 8.3:1. Output was initially rated at 120 kW (160 PS; 160 hp) and 210 N·m (150 lb·ft) and increased to 125 kW (170 PS; 168 hp) and 220 N·m (160 lb·ft). The 1.6 SC won the "1.4 L to 1.8 L" category at the International Engine of the Year awards for 2003. It also won Ward's 10 Best Engines award for 2003.
Applications:
- Mini Hatch Cooper S
